Since June 2022, TSL GmbH has been a subscribing member of “Phase Sustainability”, an action alliance of the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB). The goal of the alliance is to transform the planning practices of the German building industry to make sustainability the new normal.

There have been a large number of statements and commitments made by planners and architects. One example was a climate manifesto submitted by German architects and engineers to the UN Climate Conference in 2009, which had over 400 signatories. But where are the results of this manifesto? The DGNB are clear: we need the paradigm shift now – away from statements and towards real action!

So what exactly does Phase Sustainability want? All building begins (according to the Fee Schedule for Architects and Engineers – HOAI) with Phase 1, the basic assessment. The Sustainability Phase is understood as Phase 0, i.e. even before the requirements of the building project are discussed with the client, planners should initiate discussions that include the sustainability goals of the building project.

Planners are provided with guidelines and questionnaires that are developed together with the building owners. Furthermore, building targets and actuals are compared after completion and made transparent through an exchange of experience. The DGNB provides assistance in this regard, for example with materials and documents for downloading and by linking the topics of the “Sustainability Declaration” to the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). As a general contractor for high-tech industrial construction, discussions about using wood instead of steel, for example, are of central importance to us in structural planning. More than this, though, resource planning and the energy solutions for our buildings are central considerations as we progress towards more ambitious sustainability goals.

Nachhaltig Bauen für die Industrie

Seit Juni 2022 ist die TSL GmbH zeichnendes Mitglied der „Phase Nachhaltigkeit“, einem Aktionsbündnis der Deutschen Gesellschaft für nachhaltiges Bauen (DGNB) e.V. Das Ziel: Transformation der gesamten Planungspraxis im Bauwesen hin zu Nachhaltigkeit als neuem Normal.

Bisher gab es eine Vielzahl von Statements und Bekenntnissen bei Planern und Architekten. Ein Beispiel: Klima Manifest „Vernunft für die Welt“ als deutscher Beitrag der Architekten und Ingenieure zur UN-Klimakonferenz 2009 mit über 400 Unterzeichnern. Aber wo sind die Ergebnisse des Klima Manifests? Das Statement des DGNB dazu: Wir brauchen jetzt den Paradigmenwechsel! Weg von Statements, hin zum realen Handeln!

Was will die „Phase Nachhaltigkeit“? Alles Bauen beginnt (nach HOAI) mit der Phase 1, der Grundlagenermittlung. Die Phase Nachhaltigkeit versteht sich als Phase 0, d.h. noch bevor mit dem Bauherren über Vorstellungen und Anforderungen des Bauprojektes gesprochen wird, sollen Planer mit allen Bauherren fundierte Gespräche initiieren, die die Nachhaltigkeitsziele des Bauprojektes, sowie deren Festschreibung beinhalten. In sechs verschiedenen Themenfeldern, z.B. Klimaschutz, zirkuläre Wertschöpfung, Suffizienz oder Umwelt (…) werden den Planern Leitfäden und Fragebögen an die Hand gegeben, die gemeinsam mit den Bauherren erarbeitet werden. Weiter werden Bau-Soll und Bau-Ist nach Fertigstellung abgeglichen und im Erfahrungsaustausch transparent gemacht. Hilfestellungen dazu gibt die DGNB z.B. mit Materialien und Dokumenten zum Download und mit der Verlinkung der Themen der „Deklaration Nachhaltigkeit“ zu den Sustainable Development Goals der UN (SDGs). Als Generalunternehmer für den hochtechnisierten Industriebau sind für uns Themen, wie „Holz statt Stahl“ in der Tragwerksplanung von zentraler Bedeutung. Aber auch die Planung von Ressourcen und die energetische Ausstattung des Gebäudes sind zentrale Merkmale, Nachhaltigkeitsziele umzusetzen.
